What is a PDF annotation, and why does whiting-out text not remove it?
An annotation is an object attached to a page on top of its content: highlights, underlines, strike-throughs, sticky notes, free text, ink drawings, shapes, stamps and signature fields are all annotation types defined in ISO 32000, stored in the page's /Annots array and editable or removable later. Flattening draws them permanently into the page content. The PDF editor on this site keeps only highlights, underlines, strike-throughs (unless you choose to flatten them) and sticky notes as annotations; the text, drawings, shapes, stamps and signature images it adds are written straight into the page content and are permanent. A white rectangle drawn over text is exactly that — a shape on top — so the text beneath still exists, copies and searches; only redaction, which deletes the underlying content, removes it.
Security note: Covering text with a shape is not redaction: the hidden text remains in the file and can be selected, extracted or found by search. Use a redaction tool that removes content, then check the result by searching for the removed text.

- 1AnnotationsHighlights, underlines, strikethroughs; sticky notes
Any reader can still move or delete them. Choose “Flatten into the page” and the marks go into 2 instead; notes always stay here
- 2Added page contentText, images, signatures, drawings, shapes, stamps, whiteout
Permanent: written into the page content
- 3Original page contentThe text and images the PDF already had
Still there under a white box: it copies and searches
Redacted pages are the exception: each is re-rendered as an image with the boxes burnt in and replaces the original, so the hidden text no longer exists.

Can I edit the existing text of the PDF?
You can cover existing text with the whiteout tool and type new text over it, add text anywhere, and remove content for good with Redact. Re-flowing the original paragraphs like a word processor is not something a PDF supports reliably, so the editor does not pretend to; for that, convert to Word, edit, and convert back.
What happens to my edits in the saved file?
Text, images, drawings, shapes, stamps and whiteout are written into the page content (permanent). Highlights, underlines and strikethroughs are saved as standard PDF annotations that every reader shows and can still move or delete — or flattened into the page, if you choose. Notes are always saved as annotations (comment icons). Redacted pages are re-rendered as images so the hidden text no longer exists.
Does it work with Arabic and Hindi text?
Yes. Typed text is shaped and written right-to-left for Arabic and with correct conjuncts for Devanagari, using the Cairo and Noto Sans Devanagari fonts, which are embedded in the output so it looks the same everywhere.
Can I undo, and is there a keyboard?
Every change can be undone and redone (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y). Delete removes the selection, arrows nudge it, Escape deselects, Ctrl + / − / 0 zoom, and Enter edits a selected text box.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The file is opened and processed by your browser with WebAssembly and JavaScript; nothing is sent to Mutqan Soft or anyone else. Close the tab and the file is gone. Downloading the result needs a free account — no subscription, no payment.
What are the size limits?
Up to 250 MB and 2,000 pages per operation on a desktop browser, 60 MB and 500 pages on a phone, because everything runs in your device’s memory. The tool tells you before it starts if a file is over the limit.
Can I use it on a password-protected PDF?
Yes, if you know the password: the file list asks for it once and every operation then works on the decrypted pages. The output is saved without a password unless you protect it again.
Technical notes
Pages are rendered by pdf.js on canvas; every edit is an object in PDF user space drawn on an SVG overlay that carries the page’s viewport transform, so what you see is where it lands. On save the document model goes to a Web Worker where pdf-lib writes it: text with embedded subset fonts (bidi-aware), images, paths and shapes into the content stream; highlight/underline/strikeout and notes as annotation dictionaries with appearance streams and QuadPoints; page operations by rewriting the page tree in place (forms, links and outlines survive); redacted pages rasterised by pdf.js with the boxes burnt in and swapped for the originals.
